Why is it important for guitar students to attend symphony and orchestral performances?

Many, many, many classical compositions for the guitar are backed by an orchestra or symphony.  If a student intends to become a master, they must learn early on what these groups sound like and how they organize.  Remember, knowledge is power!  As the mastery of the classical guitar becomes more apparent in a musician, they will be asked to play with a larger group.  In these performances, the guitar player is solo.  That is, they are the only musician playing a guitar and all eyes are on them!   For the guitar player, knowing who the musicians are, what they are playing, where they are playing, how they sound, and what skill level these symphonies perform at will better prepare them for such performances.

Here is an excellent example of the classical guitarist Eduardo Fernandez.  In the following video, you see him playing Concierto festivo By E.Cordero with the Vivaldi Orchestra of Alessandria conducted by Paolo Ferrara.

If you need another good reason to attend one of the concerts...musicians support musicians.  That is just how it is.  We celebrate and enjoy the hard work of other musicians just the same as they celebrate and enjoy ours.  No matter the instrument, we are family.
