Hand Stretches and Warm Up Exercises

Just as an athlete would warm up and stretch before their workouts, classical guitar players should warm up and stretch their hands, shoulders, backs, and necks.  It is beneficial to spend the time on some simple exercises to avoid injuries.  Pain and tension in your muscles and joints can cause your performance and your practice to suffer.  Warm ups and stretches for guitar players are essential to keeping your hands from aching or your shoulders from locking.  Too many guitarists neglect this essential step resulting in an inability to play their guitar for long periods of time, sometimes for the rest of their lives.

Below is a list of free warm up exercises and hand stretches that guitar players can incorporate into their practice routine.  Start with a couple and then add more in as you build the habit for healthy playing.  Each exercise has a free .pdf that you can download and print.
