Hand Flappers Guitar Player Hand Exercise

The Hand Flappers Guitar Player Hand Exercise is a great exercise to warm up, loosen, and prepare  the muscles in the wrist joint.  It also stretches the muscles in the back and front of the wrist and the tendons on the top of the hand.  Perform this exercise before practice to help reduce injury to the wrist.  Move slowly to ensure a good stretch and reduce the risk of injury.  You can download a free, printable .pdf for this exercise here: Hand-Flappers-Guitar-Player-Hand-Exercise.pdf or right click and save the image below.

Hand Flappers Guitar Player Warm Up Exercise

1.

Begin with the hand straight.  Bend the hand up at the wrist.

2.

Press up until you feel a stretch in your hand, wrist, and arm.  Then lower your hand back down.

With your hand straight, bend down at the wrist.


4.

Press down until you feel a stretch in your hand, wrist, and arm.  Then raise your hand back to it's straight position.

Repeat this exercise for a total of ten time per hand.

Windmill Wrist Guitar Player Hand Exercise

The Windmill Wrist Guitar Player Hand Exercise is a great exercise to warm up, loosen, and prepare  the muscles in the wrist joint.  Perform this exercise before practice to help reduce injury to the wrist.  Move slowly to ensure a good stretch and reduce the risk of injury.  You can download a free, printable .pdf for this exercise here: Windmills-Guitar-Player-Hand-Exercise.pdf or right click and save the image below.

With your palms facing away from you, slowly rotate the wrist in a clockwise motion.

Repeat this exercise nine more times for a total of ten clockwise rotations.  Then, perform this exercise in the counter-clockwise direction for ten rotations per hand.

Finger Press Guitar Player Hand Exercise

The Finger Press Guitar Player Hand Exercise is a great exercise to isolate, strengthen, and warm up the muscles in the fingers and thumb.  Perform this exercise before practice to help reduce injury to these muscles.  Be sure you are pressing gently.  Pressing your fingers too hard may strain your muscles and cause injury.  You can download a free, printable .pdf for this exercise here: Finger-Press-Guitar-Player-Hand-Exercise.pdf or right click and save the image below.

Finger Press Warm Up Exercise for Guitar Players

Step 1:
Spread the fingers out with the palm facing toward you.  Keep your shoulders, arms, and neck relaxed.

Step 2:
Touch the tip of the finger to the tip of the thumb.  Press and hold them together for the count of four.  Do not press so hard that you strain your fingers.  Then, release and relax the hand.

Repeat this exercise five times for each finger before practice.

Stretch and Grab Guitar Player Hand Exercise

The Stretch and Grab Guitar Player Hand Exercise is a great exercise to isolate and warm up the tendons on the back of the hand.  Perform this exercise before practice to help reduce injury to these tendons.  Be sure you are squeezing gently.  Squeezing your hand too tightly may strain your muscles and tendons causing injury.  You can download a free, printable .pdf for this exercise here: Stretch-and-Grab-Guitar-Player-Hand-Exercise.pdf or right click and save the image below.

Stretch and Grab Hand Exercise for Classical Guitar Players

Step 1:
Stretch your hand out flat in front of you while keeping your arms and shoulders relaxed.

Step 2:
Slowly curl your fingers in and grab the top portion above the last knuckle of your thumb with your fingers and make a fist.  Press your finger tips into the palm of your hand while keeping them fairly straight.  Gently squeeze your fist, but not so much that you put pressure on your thumb.  If you feel pressure on your thumb, you are squeezing too tightly.  Focus the tension of the squeeze into the tendons on the back of the hand.  Release, and stretch your hand back out.

Repeat this exercise nine more times for a total of ten grabs per hand.  You can do each hand separately or at the same time.
