Stretch and Grab Guitar Player Hand Exercise

The Stretch and Grab Guitar Player Hand Exercise is a great exercise to isolate and warm up the tendons on the back of the hand.  Perform this exercise before practice to help reduce injury to these tendons.  Be sure you are squeezing gently.  Squeezing your hand too tightly may strain your muscles and tendons causing injury.  You can download a free, printable .pdf for this exercise here: Stretch-and-Grab-Guitar-Player-Hand-Exercise.pdf or right click and save the image below.

Step 2:
Slowly curl your fingers in and grab the top portion above the last knuckle of your thumb with your fingers and make a fist.  Press your finger tips into the palm of your hand while keeping them fairly straight.  Gently squeeze your fist, but not so much that you put pressure on your thumb.  If you feel pressure on your thumb, you are squeezing too tightly.  Focus the tension of the squeeze into the tendons on the back of the hand.  Release, and stretch your hand back out.
