Student Application

Who we accept

Students of all levels of play are accepted to the Ross School of Classical Guitar.  We accept students as young as 9 years of age (as long as they are able to read the necessary material or have a committed adult who can read the material to them.)  One parent or guardian is required to attend and remain present during all lessons for students under 17 years of age.  Parental participation and supervision during lessons and home practice sessions are required for students under 13 years of age.

What we look for in students

Our schedule is limited and therefore we must choose the students we feel best fit into our programs.  We look for certain qualities in our students and the parents of our younger students:

Commitment - Classical Guitar is much more challenging than it looks.  Students and parents must be committed to daily practice, attending lessons, and working through technical issues as well as boredom.

Willingness to work and practice - Daily practice is an absolute must, no exceptions.  Students and parents must be motivated, willing participants when it comes to study, performances, practice, and being a good ensemble member.

Passion - love your music, love your instrument, love what you do.

Schedule - Classical guitar requires daily practice of anywhere from one hour to three hours.  No student can be truly successful if they do not have the time in their schedule to practice and study.  Parents must be willing to allow the needed time for their student while providing a quiet, distraction free practice area.
